Scientific Advisory Board

David Klatzmann
Chairman

Professor of Immunology, Head of Biotherapy research unit at UPMC University and medical school and Coordinator of the Investigational Clinical Centre (CIC-BT) in La Pitié-Salpêtrière hospital (Paris, France), David has been devoted to translational research and clinical immunology. His work goes from fundamental immunology to pathophysiology of immune-related disorders. Since these past 20 years, he developed a first-level expertise in the research field of immune tolerance and homeostasis. In particular, he explored the role of regulatory T cells and pioneered the field of immune regulation by performing the first trial ever evaluating low dose IL2 in patients with autoimmune diseases (i.e. vasculitis). David is co-inventor of more than 30 patents and published more than 200 articles in peer-reviewed journals.

Georges Tsokos

Georges is Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School and Chief, Rheumatology Division, Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston (USA). He has served various leadership positions including President of the Clinical Immunology Society and as member or chair of multiple federal study sections and editorial boards of scientific journals. He holds a MERIT Award from the National Institutes of Health and has received many prestigious awards including the Kirkland, Howley, Evelyn Hess awards and the Distinguished Basic Investigator Award from the American College of Rheumatology and more recently the Lupus Insight Award and the Carol Nachman International Prize in Rheumatology. Georges’ laboratory has opened and led the field of molecular abnormalities on immune cells in patients with lupus and identified previously unknown pathways which have served as the basis for novel treatments which are currently in various phases of development.

Abul Abbas

Professor of Pathology and Immunology, Abul worked since 1999 at UCSF (USA) after 20 years on the Harvard faculty (USA). Abul has received several honors, including election to the Institute of Medicine of the National Academy of Sciences. From 2011-2013, he was the President of the Federation of Clinical Immunology Societies (FOCIS). Abul’s research interests are in Immunology, with a focus on the control of immune responses and the causes of autoimmunity. He has used experimental models to analyze the generation and maintenance of regulatory T cells. He has published over 200 peer-reviewed papers and invited reviews, and is the author of four widely read textbooks, two in Immunology and two in Pathology. He has taught Immunology at Harvard Medical School and UCSF, and has organized and conducted Immunology courses worldwide. Abul received his Medical Doctor degree in India, completed training in Pathology at Harvard and joined the faculty at Harvard Medical School and the Brigham and Women’s Hospital.
